Intelesens, “the Belfast wireless health monitoring company,” received FDA regulatory clearance for its Aingeal wireless Holter monitor. The device measures ECG, heart and respiratory rate, temperature and body motion and relays it to a central server for clinician analysis.

The device underwent clinical testing at the Massachusetts General Hospital last year and has already received European marketing approval.

Evaluation on SHINE

Following our tour on CHITS, we get to explore the SHINE program during today's class. SHINE stands for Secured Health Information Network and Exchange. Its purpose is to create a new data management specifically design for RHUs. Like CHITS, SHINE was very easy to use. Minimum competencies are required to use the site. The SHINE's user interface is very good. I don't find anything that I would like to change about the site. More advertisement for SHINE would be advised up until this week I never heard of SHINE. The relation of the site to nursing practice is almost the same with CHITS with the addition of time saving opportunities.

Yesterday, we got the opportunity to demo the site CHITS, CHITS stands for Community Health Information Tracking System. It was developed to catTr the needs of RHU clinics all over the country. The demo site in itself seems easy enough to use but I did notice a few small flaws here in now. One example is the entry of date, the format of the date was not specific enough so users might have a problem with that. Overall, the user interface was easy enough to understand. Computer basic knowledge is all that's needed to use the site. I think that's a good thing since most nurses are not really that much fond of technology. The relevance of CHITS to nursing practice is that besides from making the nurses job easier and more efficient, it also allows quality control in the care of the patient. The only suggestion I can make is that make the site more professional looking. It's a demo site so we'll see.

First of all readers, you might wonder what is HIPAA? HIPAA stands for Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996. HIPAA's purpose is to secure the health insurance of workers and their families if they lose their jobs. Also HIPAA ensures protection of health care records while encouraging exchange of records between healthcare system. Interoperability with insurance and security. HIPAA is a standard and it does not provide a software itself.

HIPAA standards is set with the "Security Rule" under it we have: Administrative safeguards, Physical safeguards, and Technical safeguards. All three makes up the component of the security rule.

In the future I hope that the use of HIPAA standards will extend outside of the United States to different countries of the world, specially here in the Philippines because that's where I live.
